There are numerous actors that would better fit Reacher’s dimensions… but I’m not sure any would have Tom’s presence. I’m not Tom’s biggest fan, for sure. But more often than not, he does what he does quite well. Reply This is clearly not a traditional Reacher book and that is NOT a good thing. This Reacher is a thug who continually looks forward to violence. It’s not the amount of violence, it’s the attitude. Then at the end, he becomes righteous –“I’m not going to kill anyone in cold blood”– tell that to the warden he choose to kill. Undoubtedly, Andrew Child will continue to live off of his brother’s reputation, but I will no longer be reading them. Reacher doesn’t agree to those terms and even tries to escape, but eventually decides to at least look into the situation. It’s a decision that could cost him his life. Another Reacher novel, “The Enemy”, won the Barry and the Nero awards for Best Novel. With all of these accolades one would think Lee Child was born to be an author. But as usually is the case, his success story has many twists and turns that lead him on the path to writing his best selling novels and to ultimately create this alluring character. Born Jim Grant on October 29, 1954 in Coventry England, Child and his family moved to Birmingham when he was four years old. At the age of 20, in 1974, Child entered Law School in Sheffield, England. It is said that he never intended to actually practice law. Upon graduation, he decided instead to get a job in commercial television and joined Granada TV in Manchester. Child would end up working there for 18 years before being fired as a result of “corporate restructuring.” During that time he wrote countless commercials, news stories and trailers. It was 1995 and Child was 40 years old.

No Plan B by Lee Child and Andrew Child Book Review: No Plan B by Lee Child and Andrew Child

I have read every Reacher novel twice, including The Sentinel. Now I’m wondering if he and his son wrote this one before the 2020 US election. If so they must have had an inkling of the fraud involved…. or some other intuition. Chapter 23 hit it on square on the head. Keep up the great writing. I can’t get enough of Reacher. BTW.. we need another movie, without Cruise. As said by Nan F, Liev Schreiber would be perfect. Most posters agree Cruise was a terrible choice to play Reacher, a character so defined by his sheer physical presence. Lawrence Olivier couldn’t act his way into that and Cruise is no Sir Lawrence… he isn’t even Dame Judy. Paul Newman had that ability to play bigger men. Obody like him now. I’d vote for Duane Johnson. Reply The book details some of the exploits of Reacher as he tries to convince an unwilling populace that he is not guilty of the crime he is accused of committing. The book details Reacher’s interactions with a detective by the name of Findlay one of his main accusers. There are other characters that feature prominently in the novel as well. Some of the other characters of note that are part of the plot in the Kililng Floor include Chief Morrison and his wife who also are murder victims. There is also a multi billion dollar counterfeiting ring that comes in play in the action of this award wining book. There are other sorts of interesting plot twists within this novel that many people will read. Use this story for a great summer read and enjoy the time to delve into this exciting and powerfully written novel. Better Off Dead: When Reacher is out for a walk in the hot desert sun when he comes across a Jeep that has crashed into a tree with its driver slumped over the wheel. The woman isn’t dead, thankfully. In my opinion, once an author stops writing either by design or by unfortunate circumstance, his character or series should stop. Generally, replacement authors tend to miss the nuances of the original, robbing the book of what makes the story line true and familiar.

This review is based on an uncorrected advance review copy, not the final copy for publication. So, perhaps the editors will make a few changes before the book’s release. But one thing I noticed worth criticizing is the copy I read contains more than a few blatantly British colloquialisms and manners of speaking that feel a little jarring because they don’t fit with a story set in America with only American characters. Even given Reacher’s history growing up on Marine Corps bases all over the world as a military brat, it’s unlikely he would have adopted specifically British ways of speaking into his speech. There’s nothing wrong with two British authors writing a book set in America and filled only with American characters, but they should avoid the use of terms and colloquialisms almost only ever spoken and written in British English. As only one example, “fishmonger” is a mainly British term for a storekeeper who sells fish which in my entire life I’ve never heard uttered in the United States, though Americans may have used the term in the colonial days. She needs Reacher’s help with a job to assassinate the Vice President of the United States, theoretically. Froelich needs his help to find the holes in her system because there is a covert group who plans to do it for real. The would-be assassins have thought of nearly everything in their plan to kill, but there’s one thing they didn’t plan for: Reacher. Have you read the latest one, Better Off Dead? If you told me Lee wrote the entire thing I’d believe you. Feels like a really old school Lee Child book and I’m really enjoying it. Reminds me a lot of Persuader. Reply This was not the case with the Sentinel. As such, rather than buy another copy of Mr. Lee’s new book, I will wait until my public library has a copy available and read it. If this behavior continues, I will drop him completely. Please support me in keeping our favorite authors non-political. tx Reply Echo Burning: Reacher is traveling across the scorching Texas desert when he ends up catching a rife from a woman. Her name is Carmen Greer and she has quite the story to tell him. The woman tells him that the only reason that she stopped is because of her problem: her husband. He is getting out of prison soon and she’s afraid of what will happen to her. She’s looking for someone to kill her husband and she thinks that man is Reacher.

When the first movie had been announced I imagined Dolph Lundgren as Reacher. I know Dolph is a bit too old, but he is much better Reacher than shorty 😀 Reply Whoever the enemy is, Reacher knows that the only way to stop him is to match his ruthlessness and cunning, and beat him at his own dangerous game. Excellent series, wonderful actors, I am thrilled to see Lee Childs books portrayed so well in a TV series, I am an avid fan and have read his books for many years, hope this series will continue! Reply completely agree – Reacher has jumped the shark! The last few chapters of this book were beyond ridiculous, the villains so insanely villanous, the plot so incredibly convoluted as to render it pretty much unreadable. Read the books. The movie came out and i choose to not mar my mind with 5’5″ wimpy tommy. Would have been nice to have a Reacher movie with a ‘new’ actor. Not a retread. And cruise as an actor has two or three facial moves. His deepth as an actor/(human), is that of an earth worm. Reply

Any issues with the book list you are seeing? Or is there an author or series we don’t have? Let me know! A beautiful cop who runs Hope joins forces with Reacher to break open the secrets of Despair and expose their connection to the war that is killing Americans. I’m not sure why but I always imagine Reacher as a Jim Caviezel character. Maybe because the part he played on the show Person of Interest. I know he doesn’t have sandy colored hair but he’s who I see in my head when I read these books. Reply All Reacher was looking for was a ride, but he now finds himself into something much bigger: a massive conspiracy that will make him a threat to both sides. What they don’t know is just how big of a threat he is. His journey will take him through small towns, the middle of nowhere, and the Wyoming wilderness. As he digs deeper into his search, things get more dangerous for him. The ring is just a link on a chain that leads Reacher to a vast criminal enterprise.

One Shot: The book starts with six shots and five people are left dead. A city is thrown into a state of terror and the police need to work fast to apprehend the killer. I am saddened by the change in the Reacher book series. I eagerly looked forward to October each year just to get the new release so I could see what my buddy Reacher had gotten himself into. Like many other commentators, I have read all the Reacher books. I lament the passing of the reader’s ability to accurately visualize what was happening in these stories, and where and why. Some of the earlier book scenarios were priceless, but sadly this descriptive gift has been shelved. Reacher himself has morphed into an aggressor, whereas in earlier books he was a righteous dealer of retaliatory strife. Im 80 years old,and I,have being reading your books for the last four years, my husband was a ex Militery Police, and I use to pretend,.That Reacher was my husband.I have read some of your books twice,i just finish the Sentinel…WHY ,WHY, do you have to kill him,you wrote all this other books,..Im really piss at you. ReplyThe Enemy: On New Year’s Day, 1990, a two-star general was found dead in a North Carolina motel. The only thing missing from his room was his briefcase, but nobody seems to know what was in it. Reacher is called in to control the situation. However, hours later the general’s wife is also murdered and it’s only the beginning. I read “Killing Floor” and I thought it was passable but a bit boring. Since then I have read 4 others and they are getting progressively worse. They are too linear with lots of long boring sections. 61 hours is typical.
