About this deal

Ceramic or glass bowls are the best options for reptile and amphibian habitats, as they’re unlikely to spill and they are easy to wash regularly. However, plastic or paper bowls can be used if you’d rather use disposable products.

Usually, it is preferable to keep the filter outside of the enclosure. Flexible tubes can then be used to transport the water to and from the enclosure. This will facilitate maintenance and make it easier to troubleshoot problems. However, clever keepers can often devise ways to hide a small filtration unit inside well-planted vivaria. Tropical environments typically have high humidity levels. In these vivariums, the humidity range should often be maintained between 60% and 80%, and will sometimes near 100% in the evening. This higher sustained humidity allows for proper hydration and supports the growth of tropical plants and animals. Temperate Vivariums This will maintain a suitable amount of fresh air, without allowing the humidity to drop to inappropriate levels. In most cases, you’ll want to employ a combination of both approaches. Accordingly, you’ll need to ensure that the air in your vivarium is refreshed more-or-less constantly. This will ensure that all of the organisms in the habitat will remain healthy and thrive. It includes your pets, the plants and all of the microorganisms lurking in the substrate. A suitable vivarium set up is probably the most important thing to take into account when bringing a reptile, amphibian or exotic pet into your home.

Wooden vivariums are ideal for a desert environment. And as you'd expect, desert reptiles are used to open, sandy environments, drenched in heat. I highly recommend using an automated misting system. I’ve been using the Repti-Zoo 10L for years. They are straight forward to setup, and offer a convenient and efficient way to maintain humidity, providing consistent moisture levels for your plants and inhabitants. MistKing is another popular brand for mist systems. Benefits of automatic misting systems The plants living in habitats with too much air exchange may begin to wilt. This occurs due to dropping humidity levels, which accelerate the rate of transpiration (the process by which plants draw water from the soil or substrate and releases it into the air from small pores on the leaves). Snakes and Lizards Experiencing Poor Sheds Our Repti-Luxe Vivarium range is made using our finest quality 18mm board, polished edged glass, and 1mm abs edging as standard.

You can use plants, corkbark, branches or other items to hide the water dish and sidestep this problem.Personally, I prefer to begin by providing the proper amount of heat to a habitat. I then tweak the amount of ventilation and water added to maintain appropriate conditions. I err on the side of too much ventilation, rather than too little, as I don’t mind adding more water to the habitat as necessary. Using Fans in Rainforest Vivaria Don’t forget that our team of reptile experts are always ready to help you find the perfect wooden vivarium for your new pet – just give us a call or drop us a line!

However, if you desire to enhance the atmosphere or create occasional misty conditions, adding a fogger can be a great option. It can contribute to the aesthetics and provide a unique experience for both the vivarium and its observers. Ultimately, the decision to incorporate a fogger should be based on personal preference and the specific requirements of the vivarium ecosystem. Factors Affecting Humidity Maintaining optimal humidity levels in a vivarium is essential for the health and well-being of its inhabitants. Hand misting, automatic misting systems, foggers, and considering other factors like ventilation and heating can help create and maintain the ideal humidity environment. The second stage of filtration is called biological filtration. To accomplish this, beneficial bacteria are cultivated on some type of matrix-like structure, where they metabolize undesirable compounds in the water, such as ammonia. Typically, these bacteria colonize the filter naturally with use, but you’ll need to follow the manufacturer’s instructions to ensure you don’t kill off the bacteria during water changes and filter cleanings. Your wooden vivarium requires at least one air vent per square foot - this is why Vivexotic vivariums are great for housing your reptile. Vivexotic offer some fantastic kits which are designed to ensure that dirt and insects cannot escape and therefore have air vents at the top of the vivarium rather than near the bottom. All Vivexotic vivariums also have toughened glass, which is five times stronger than original glass. This is much safer as it will only break into small, blunt fragments when broken. Rear vents Some stores recommend using the Viva+ terrestrial medium for a hatchling corn snake, and it is possible to get enough of a temperature gradient for a very small snake in this size of enclosure. Better still is the Viva+ terrestrial large, although this is still very narrow and not really suitable for long term use. You can tell if your plants need more ventilation by observing them. If they are getting too hot, and drying out, it may be too hot inside the terrarium, so a fan or extra vent might be needed. If there is too much moisture or mold growing, you might need to add more ventilation as well. Best Ventilators

If environmentally friendliness is important to you, a Vivexotic vivarium is a good choice. Each vivarium is made from timber that’s sourced from recycled sources or FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) sustainable forests. Toughened glass Available in a huge range of sizes to make it easy to find one that sits your reptile, you can choose from a range of finishes to find one that suits your home decor. You’ll need to use a humidity-measuring tool to do so. It’s also important to watch your animal closely for signs of dehydration or dry skin. The answer lies in the way air exchange can alter the characteristics of the habitat – specifically as it relates to two different parameters. Problems Caused by Excessive Air Exchange: Reduced Humidity and Lost Heat The first step is usually mechanical filtration, which seeks to remove particulate matter from the enclosure. This is typically accomplished by forcing the water through some type of filter media that acts as a sieve. A fine screen may also be placed over the inlet to prevent animals and large items from entering the filter. Some terrarium owners simply ventilate by leaving it covered during the day and then uncover it during the night. For larger enclosures, fans and vents may be needed. The same principles of temperature mentioned above apply to terrariums as well. Compatibility: Consider the size of the misting system and its water reservoir with the vivarium's size, species, and specific humidity requirements. If you have to refill the water reservoir every few days, it makes sense to get a larger reservoir.
