I know that people are generally advised to "write about what you know", but surely no-one can have failed to have groaned when a Jeffrey Archer protagonist wrote a prison diary. Nor when the same protagonist starts armed forces training. Nor when his first book sells well in North America, allowing a lucrative deal to be sealed for its UK distribution. Nor when a character becomes an MP. Nor when the plot moves to the House of Lords. It's as though Archer has taken Private Eye's Jeremy Longbow as inspiration rather than ridicule. I felt this was a most informative read and I feel very sorry for Corby,regardless of whether people feel she is innocent or guilty. It’s not for me to judge, I am not privy to the prosecution evidence or the full knowledge the AFP may have, but this aside, McCauley’s straight talking is very compelling. If killers are just evil monsters, how can they be such loving fathers; genuine in their affection? Naturally, this is not your ordinary missing person situation. The missing girl abandoned her newborn at the hospital and now her father is caring for the baby, hoping to obtain full legal custody. Not only that, Beaumont may have a personal stake in the matter, as his wild, alcoholic past may have come home to roost.

Overall, the primary theme in this installment is the complexity of family bonds- the good, the bad and the ugly. There are a few interesting juxtapositions and plenty of food for thought. Fans of intricate family sagas and/or soap operas would probably like 'The Clifton Chronicles' and I strongly recommend this book to them.In this 24th installment, Beaumont must absorb some stunning information, when an old acquaintance pops up out of the blue asking for J.P.’s help in locating his missing daughter.

Somehow, I’ve managed to read two Beaumont mysteries in a row! What a rare, but very pleasant treat!! Not, only that, I won a gorgeous hardcover copy of this book from Goodreads!! Win-Win! This novel doesn't stand alone - you must read Only Time Will Tell first - and has no more than a couple of chapters of plot relevant to the bigger saga. Or perhaps 1.9 chapters, given that the single thread defining this novel is left incomplete. As a result, this short book is stuffed with exceptionally dull filler. The book is well written. The plot twists and turns. Jance inserts some humor in the story. J. P. Beaumont is now retired from the police force and is working as a licensed private investigator. His wife, Mel, is the Chief of Police of Bellingham. In this book Beau is hired to find a missing girl. She left her new born baby at the hospital and disappeared. Jance seems to have such interesting plots and characters in her books. I enjoyed Lucy, the Irish Wolf Hound. She was a unique character in the story. There was no action in the story, but I was kept engaged through-out. The book is a pleasant change of pace type of book. This 24th offering starts with a missing person’s case. An old acquaintance, Alan Dale, is trying to discover the whereabouts of his daughter, Naomi. It seems she disappeared soon after delivering a baby girl at the local hospital. Jance has J.P. following a convoluted path to finding first Athena’s mother, and then her father. A world of pretense, a “glass bubble” that eventually shatters and leaves everyone traumatized and outraged at the deception. The survivors will have to reconstruct their lives, trying to overcome the mental confusion that a revelation such as the one from this book carries.

After reading For the Sins of my Father by Robert DeMeo I can say my views on the mafia and the lives these mobsters lived has been altered drastically. This book was filled with emotion suspense and above all I think it was a book of love. The genuine love Robert had for his father was truly something I admired about the book.
