About this deal

Further to this, it shoots 4K video and full HD video paired with its built-in image stabilisation. Features such as these make this camera a stand-out performer amongst its competition – especially at the price that this camera is available for. If you frequently photograph or record videos in wet or aquatic environments, like at the beach, near rivers or waterfalls, or underwater, a waterproof camera could be a valuable investment. Benefits of waterproof cameras: Make sure the compartments are sealed. If you let water get into the camera, it will be damaged, and will most likely not work again. It’s important to read the instructions on waterproof-and-rugged models, if only to prevent such damage. Micro Four Thirds cameras are able to offer a physically smaller camera body, as well as smaller lenses to match. This can make the system much more portable and well-suited to travel and street photography. Furthermore, the smaller sensor size of Micro Four Thirds incurs a 2x crop factor, effectively doubling the focal length of a lens. Mounted on an Olympus camera, a 50mm lens behaves like a 100mm lens, giving you telephoto reach from a smaller and cheaper lens compared to full-frame.

Fast, high-quality and robust, the OM System OM-5 heralds great things for the future of the brand, and injects some real life into the Micro Four Thirds system. We’re huge fans, and gave it the full five stars in our review. The Micro four thirds system (MFT) is developed by Olympus, OM System and Panasonic to provide certain benefits over full-frame cameras. The primary benefit is the Olympus mirrorless camera form-factor, which is smaller and lighter, making it popular with on-the-go creators, wildlife and travel photographers in particular. There are also a huge number of micro four thirds lenses to choose from, allowing users of all skill-levels to capture any subject with lightweight equipment. Olympus achieved the seemingly impossible and created a camera that was one step ahead of customer demands. The AF-1 was a hit. It also ushered in a new era and injected new energy into the production organization, which experienced the joy of creating technology. The waterproofing technology used in the AF-1 has become part of the Olympus heritage and has evolved into the technology behind today's waterproof cameras, which can take photographs underwater, and Olympus has established a reputation as a manufacturer of waterproof cameras. The OM System OM-1 is an incredible Micro Four Thirds camera. Unlike the “waterproof” and “underwater” cameras that comprise the rest of the buying guide, OM’s cameras aren’t built for diving. However, they are built to withstand extreme weather and survive significant water. If you aren’t looking for a camera for snorkeling, but rather, for photographing in any weather condition or surviving major splashes, then the OM-1 is the best option.

This rugged camera can capture a considerable amount of video details compared to other cameras in this field. The Olympus TG-6 was our favorite waterproof compact camera - and this has now been reborn as the OM System TG-7. It is pretty much identical - but that is a good thing in our book, and ensures this newer version remains at the top of our recommendations for a rugged camera. Features we love include the built-in microscope setting that allows you to take amazing close-ups - and a Field Sensor System that records GPS coordinates and ambient temperature with your shots. While the familiar 20.4MP sensor may seem conservative in pixel count, it offers 50MP handheld shooting (or 80MP on a tripod) for when you need a resolution boost. The in-body image stabilization is now a base 6.5 stops, hitting 7.5 when used with the company's Sync-IS lenses, and an upgraded processor powers the brilliant Live ND Filters, giving you up to 4-stops of ND simulation. For the elimination of the weld line (a seam of resin), Olympus development and production engineers tried everything they could think of to find a solution, including changing the molding conditions, using resins with different flow properties, and changing the position of the gate *2. Following the introduction of plastic external surfaces on the AF-1, the technology was further improved and used on many other products. It does shoot video in 4K however only at 15fps making this recording mode somewhat limited. However, a great feature is that this camera can shoot a burst mode with up to 15 frames per second. This is great if you are shooting fast-paced action or adventuring.
