About this deal

This one was a very very slow burn. Just not my kind of book. I was intrigued a couple of times. and kept waiting and waiting to find out what happens, and didn't find out until the end which was just late for me.

When the sisters arrive, it is clear that someone is determined not to let the past lie. Someone who is watching their every move. Who remembers the girls in the painting, and what they did . . .James Berardinelli wrote in ReelViews, "The film is so boisterously entertaining that it's easy for the unsuspecting viewer not to realize that there's a message here." [27] Desson Thomson of The Washington Post described the film as "a spirited remake of the French drag farce [that] has everything in place, from eyeliner to one-liner." [28] Owen Gleiberman of Entertainment Weekly called the film "Enchantingly witty." [29] Janet Maslin of The New York Times gave the film a positive review, especially praising Williams' performance: "...this is one of his most cohesive and least antic performances. It's also a mischievously funny one: He does a fine job of integrating gag lines with semi-serious acting..." [30] In his review for The Advocate, Lance Loud commented, "Taking on the conservative agenda—more prevalent in our culture today than when the original film came out in 1979— The Birdcage goes beyond mere politics." [31] He concluded the film's "underlying feelings of compassion, tolerance, and understanding are this Bird 's brightest plumage." [31]

Armand Goldman is the openly gay owner of a drag club in South Beach called The Birdcage; his effete and flamboyant partner Albert is the star attraction of the club under the name Starina. They live together in an apartment above The Birdcage with Agador, an openly gay, equally flamboyant, Guatemalan housekeeper who aspires to be in Armand's drag show. Maslin, Janet (March 8, 1996). "Film Review: The Birdcage". The New York Times . Retrieved July 2, 2020. Three estranged half sisters travel to their aging artist father's beach estate for a weekend to hear his "big announcement." While they're there, old drama and secrets are dug up, including some that a few people really, really wish would stay hidden. This is my first book by this author who writes in a vein similar to Maeve Binchey. I didn’t realize until I was about ¾ of the way through the book that it is part of a series of books Willett has written with recurring characters, but no matter, you can read this as a “stand alone” quite easily.

Success!

We do encounter a lot of real historical figures such as Mamie Fish, Hyatt Frost and Lord Rothschild, which I thoroughly enjoyed—though historical purists should probably take note that there’s has been some creative licence taken with some of their stories/ personal lives. Immersive, tense and ultimately redemptive, while I was reading, it held me completely in its grip' SARAH VAUGHAN, bestselling author of Anatomy of a Scandal The title refers to a small home that Lizzie shares with her mother Angel an actress and Angel’s friend Pidge in Bristol. There is some content that could be upsetting, including harm to animals and abusive relationships. It makes sense within the context of the story and never felt gratuitous. When Marina discovers the affair, she forces Felix to end it, threatening him not only divorce, but with ensuring that Felix will never again see his beloved son. Felix despairing of the end of his relationship with Piers, lets Marina have her way and ends the affair with Angel.
