Mostly though I was barely engaged with this bland, forgettable comic - if you’re after some decent Moon Knight comics, check out the ones by Warren Ellis and Brian Wood instead. I don’t if it was because I was reading a ton of singles back then and was just missing stuff or not remembering story beats in everything but reading this all at once has changed my tune. Kind of bleak and also pretty hand-wavy when it comes to supernatural phenomena such as honest-to-God vampires running around midtown Manhattan, etc. It's a busier version of the Declan Shalvey designed costume, but I think simpler is always better and they should have just used it.

Moon Knight is a very complicated character, and Mackay handles the nuances of his mental illness well. On an administrative level, a recently turned vampire named Reese—one of the first people Moon Knight saved through the Midnight Mission—became Mister Knight's assistant and right-hand woman. About the only thing that didn't grab me was the artwork--a bit too sketchy for my tastes, though maybe that will improve in subsequent volumes.

He's a badass psycho, pretty scary and you absolutely do not want to fight him but he's also dramatic as hell and has an emotional support teenage vampire. But while Khonshu languishes in prison, Moon Knight’s duty still must be observed: the protection of those who travel at night.I just loved Jed Mackay’s recent job on Marvel’s Black Cat, so this debut on Moon Knight is not surprisingly at all a real solid and good one, taking the good parts from wonderful previous run by Warren Ellis who relaunched the character a few years ago, introducing his new Mr Knight’s identity and much more, and then taking his own path with strong classic vibes, homaging good old times when Marc Spector used to battle every sort of criminal mastermind and supernatural creature instead of struggling between his multiple personalities. Strange enough the art, even if overall good for my taste, is what sometimes took me out of the story. Additionally, Hunter's Moon—Khonshu's other avatar—became a convert of the Midnight Mission following a confrontation with Moon Knight.

Following Tigra's arrival, she protected Reese as Zodiac used a bomb to destroy the Midnight Mission in a bid to test Moon Knight's resolve. I guess it's good I saved this one for last because apparently every other run before this was canon and mentioned? Accompanied by Tigra and the undead Fists of Khonshu, Moon Knight was victorious with the Midnight Mission and neighborhood safe. The supporting cast are great fun too, especially once a familiar West Coast Avenger pops onto the scene.
