About this deal

Steve also looks at grounds that no longer exist as football venues, such as Third Lanark’s Cathkin Park, Clyde’s Shawfield Park, and Falkirk’s Brockville! On first seeing this book, I worried that it might be another homage to the “golden age” of Scottish football, where everything, invariably, was so much better than it is now. Also contains anecdotes and quirks gathered from fans, club historians and newspaper articles of decades past.

Wally Talbot and his son Howard (both sadly deceased) were Blackburn based photographers who captured images, in and around Blackburn, over many years. There are also chapters focusing on aspects of football grounds that have been forgotten - dugouts, segregation divides and more. The photos record fans celebrating the old times, the Fergie era, the cup finals, the silverware kisses, the greatest migration of football fans Scotland has ever seen and, of course, the glory that was Gothenburg. He is a cobwebbed and dusty expert on newspaper and magazine archives and creates books, mainly drawing upon the extensive material in the DC Thomson archive.

Author Steve Finan has spent the past three years immersed in photo archives looking for never-before-published material. Delve into vintage photos of Scottish football stadiums and crowds that have lain unseen, in archives and rarely accessed collections, for decades. A unique record of Aberdeen supporters' experience reflected in hundreds of previously unseen photos. At this point, I was actually turning the book 90 degrees to try to work out where things stood then and do now, among numerous images of terraces and stands long gone.Perhaps it was the "away days" that were the best of all and all those scenes of triumph and disaster, joy and despair - are here. Three years in the making, Steve has brought together a fabulous selection of archive images, some never-before-seen or have lain unseen for decades in the archive. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. While the majority of images focus on packed or barren terraces and small stands representing an oasis of shelter on the halfway line, some are a commemoration of unique events, such as the Third Lanark player using a pneumatic drill to break up the ice on a frozen pitch. Squarely aimed at the sports nostalgia market, the book contains around 200 archive photos of team line-ups, action shots, spectators, Sevens tournaments, and the grounds where the game was played.

Ideally, I’d like pix of the ground’s terraces and stands empty, or on-pitch action with a good, illustrative view of terraces in the background. There are almost 200 photos of 42 football stadiums here that have lain unseen, in archives and rarely accessed collections, for decades.

Read more about the condition New: A new, unread, unused book in perfect condition with no missing or damaged pages. Another bizarre image involves around 100 fans sitting in the skeleton of a new stand at Tannadice with no visible means of accessing the area in which they are sitting. A fantastic range of images, supported by some interesting newspaper articles and informative text, quickly dispensed any fears of a lament to times past. The aim is to celebrate the experiences of standing in a swaying, tight-packed, excited/angry/celebrating/commiserating/local-derby-fevered football crowd.
