Because just about anyone can refer to themselves as a 'quantum healer' or 'energy healer,' even though you can become certified, the practice becomes murky and ripe with skepticism. I like how he shows that important aspects of any cure are within our reach through the power of the mind, meditation and healthy living habits. Chopra describes, to experience pure bliss, even for a moment, and then to enjoy its lingering effects on peace and health. With the wisdom of an experienced doctor, girded by science, he guides us to reclaim our natural power towards thriving.

It was a blessing I felt keenly as I read these true stories of disease, death, and miraculous recovery. It's important to start with the term "pseudoscience," which refers to practices that are mistakenly believed to be based on the scientific method. And if any of this b*llshit actually worked beyond the effects of placebo and greater patient-doctor time, we'd happily accept it. A super book that explains the science behind the seemingly magical ability to heal yourself with your mind, your thoughts and feelings. If intelligence is an emergent property of the localised sub-processing of the brain (which currently it is believed to be according to Michael Gazzaniga and Donald Pfaff.

As a scientist I'm passionate about genes and the brain; as a person I'm totally fascinated by the origins of consciousness. I wish I could enter into some debate on thermodynamics, quantim mechanics or even good old classical mechanics, but there's actually nothing in Chopra’s book about these things in any technical way. This new knowledge is hot off the press, you might say, even though science proceeds cautiously when it comes to new breakthroughs. Introduced to the ancient methods of Hindu healing, known as Ayurveda, by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, he saw a way to add a spiritual dimension to treatment of illness. Deepak Chopra is an endocrinologist, who respectfully questions western medicine, how disconnected it is: mind from body.

Jack Tuszynski is a physics professor and Brian Fertig is and medical school professor, and together they have a wealth of insights into a new and exciting field, quantum biology. Part Two: “Lifelong Well-Being” applies the quantum model to get past the stall that current models have reached. In it, Chopra explains quantum healing as "healing the bodymind from a level which is not manifest at a sensory level [visible or tactile] .

DNA triggers the right time for events like losing your baby teeth, passing through puberty, and entering menopause. I found all of this thrilling thirty years ago, and since I had another bent, for out-of-the-box thinking, the prospects of crossing the quantum horizon fascinated me. Identical twins are born with the same genes, but by age seventy their genetic activity looks completely different. This was my first experience reading a book of Deepak Chopra's and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it.
