Within the context of his career, it is considered to be the album where "Bowie starts to become Bowie", definitively discovering his voice and style. I am aware that tape cassettes have 2 sides also, but sometimes the song lineup is altered, thereby compromising the artistic continuity.

The record also feels great on vinyl; with a coated sleeve, uncoated one - as the original vinyl was housed - and replicated lyrics sheet. Already owning Hunky Dory on vinyl and knowing that picture discs do not provide the best sound quality this picture disc was purchased for display as a collectors item and particularly for the poster. These qualities fold such wild cards as the tongue-in-cheek celebrity send-up 'Andy Warhol', the psychedelic folk of 'The Bewlay Brothers', and exuberant jam of 'Queen Bitch', the album's only overt rocker, neatly into the deck, making for the first of Bowie's truly indisputable masterpieces. The whole Hunky Dory album reflected my newfound enthusiasm for this new continent that had been opened up to me. Time chose it as part of their “100 best albums of all time” list in January 2010, with journalist Josh Tyrangiel praising Bowie’s “earthbound ambition to be a boho poet with prodigal style”. Fill Your Heart", written by Biff Rose and Paul Williams, is the only track on Hunky Dory not written by Bowie; [45] it is his first recorded cover song in six years.

Bowie's vocals – recorded in one take – are delivered passionately during the chorus and almost nasally in the verses. Bowie opted for a more minimalist image reflecting the album's "preoccupation with the silver screen". David Bowie's 1971 album "Hunky Dory", what a fantastic album, even though most the songs are ballads, this is a nice soulful lovely album to listen to.Following the release of his 1970 album, The Man Who Sold the World, Bowie took time off from recording and touring. The subdued support accentuates the depth of Bowie's material, whether it's the revamped Tin Pan Alley of "Changes," the Neil Young homage "Quicksand," the soaring "Life on Mars? He told Peter and Leni Gillman, the authors of Alias David Bowie, that the landlord had an unusual vocabulary that was infused with "upper-crust jargon" such as "prang" and "whizzo" and "everything's hunky-dory". The set included debut performances of several songs Bowie had recently written such as " Queen Bitch", " Bombers", " Song for Bob Dylan" and "Andy Warhol". Michael Gallucci of Ultimate Classic Rock notes that it is Bowie's first record to include "a mix of pop, glam, art and folk wrapped in an ambisexual pose that would come to define the artist".

In a 2013 readers' poll for Rolling Stone, Hunky Dory was voted Bowie's second greatest album, behind Ziggy Stardust. Irrespective of the source, all of our collectables meet our strict grading and are 100% guaranteed.
