About this deal

Francis Ford Coppola's Bram Stoker's Dracula comes to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray for the second time, a re-issue by Sony just five short years after its last release. As for where I fall into the camp of defenders or detractors of Francis Ford Coppola’s opus, I am a defender. Qualms, niggles, and grumbles aside, I still very much enjoy this film but I’m not blind to its many faults.

All of this allows Coppola to bring something new and delightfully decadent to the material, akin to the bottle of absinthe Dracula and Mina share, even if Bram Stoker’s Dracula, like the Stoker novel, ultimately reconciles itself with the status quo. With a splashy end-of-the-year release, solid box office and positive reviews from most of the nation’s film critics, it was clear awards were just around the corner; the question was if the film would only be recognized in technical categories or if it could also place in top categories like acting, directing and picture. I actually think if they shifted the casting a little and let Cary Elwes play Harker with Richard E. It's a technical marvel, employing techniques - spanning 70 years of cinematic trickery and in-camera effects - all in one film.Lavish and luxurious, Coppola's magnificent ode to Bram Stoker's epistolary novel is the auteur's last great feature, a flawed but fabulous fable that puts the heart back into this ancient icon, giving audiences a reason to actually care about the fact that everybody seems to want to shove a stake in it.

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is thrilled to announce that director Francis Ford Coppola’s Oscar-winning classic will be available to own on 4K Ultra HD Blu-Ray in a Limited Edition Steelbook with brand-new extras on 10th October, exclusively from Zavvi. However, a big-budget horror extravaganza like “Bram Stoker’s Dracula” going home with three Academy Awards was a definite win for the movie, Coppola and Columbia Pictures. The costumes, the makeup, the creature design the set design, and the incredible visual effects were stunning. Another reason some might not have predicted too many Oscar noms for “Bram Stoker’s Dracula” was the academy’s aversion to recognizing horror films, and that was certainly the case for previous “Dracula” adaptations. Above and beyond all the dramatic grandstanding is the deliciously overripe look of the film, rife with swooping camera movements, abundant superimpositions, and the routine use of forced perspective. We reviewed the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release of Bram Stoker's Dracula on an LG 55B7 Dolby Vision 4K Ultra HD OLED TV with a Panasonic DP-UB820EB-K Dolby Vision HDR10+ 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player. Winona Ryder in the following two years received Academy Award noms for “The Age of Innocence” and “Little Women. But when Winona Ryder, of all people (she's one of the major reasons why The Godfather Part III ended up so flawed - her last-minute departure seeing understudy, Coppola's own daughter and now celebrated director in her own right Sofia Coppola, brought in to replace her, with fatal results), brought a Dracula script to his attention, Coppola was back!

Considering the classic nature of the novel, character, and how many times we’ve reviewed Bram Stoker’s Dracula here at High-Def Digest, you’ll have to forgive me for not starting with my traditional story teaser recap of the film. using a Wide Colour Gamut (WCG), High Dynamic Range (HDR10 and Dolby Vision), and is encoded using the HEVC (H. Nevertheless, the ways in which Bram Stoker’s Dracula chooses to implement these aspects are very different. The cinematographer, Michael Ballhaus, gets into the spirit so completely he always seems to light with shadows.Dracula was shot with all manner of cinematic techniques as already detailed, including rear projection, multiple exposures, miniature effects, compositing images with a forced perspective, matte paintings, front projection and reverse motion.
