About this deal

Setting the Color Space setting to 'Auto' instead of its default of 'Native' locks the colors to the sRGB color space, and you can still change other settings as you wish.

The Neo G8 also has better overall picture quality because it has Mini LED backlighting, allowing it to get brighter and deliver a better local dimming feature than the G7. You can adjust the Response Time overdrive setting whether or not you have VRR enabled, and the recommended setting is 'Standard' because 'Faster' and 'Extreme' have too much overshoot. If you want better dark room performance, go with the Samsung because it can produce much deeper blacks. Users should be aware that the panel exhibits the off-centre contrast shift which is inherent to the VA pixel structure. The LG 27GP950-B and the Samsung Odyssey G7 C32G75T use different panel technologies, each with strengths and weaknesses, so the best one varies depending on your exact usage. The BG70 is available in 28 and 32-inch screen sizes, while the AG70 is available in just a 28-inch screen size.

If you game in the dark, the Samsung is a much better choice because it uses a VA panel with a significantly higher contrast ratio. Also, the monitor has an RJ45 Ethernet port, so you can connect it directly to the Internet for streaming. This makes it a useful and usable mode, we would have just liked to have seen a slightly tighter control over the gamut coverage for that extra level of accuracy. While the input lag increases with 60Hz signals, it's still low enough for casual gaming, but you'll notice delay with BFI enabled. The Samsung has an advantage with motion handling as it has a faster response time at lower refresh rates, but the LG has lower input lag at 60Hz. The screen was tested at default factory settings using our new X-rite i1 Pro 2 Spectrophotometer combined with LaCie’s Blue Eye Pro software suite.

The monitor was tested in SDR, HDR, and with different games, but despite actively trying, we couldn't reproduce the exact issue that others were reporting. For the lowest input lag you need to make sure you have the input label set to 'PC' and you're in Game Mode. We also measured the screen after adjusting only the OSD controls, to obtain the optimal setup without a full calibration, and without the use of an ICC correction profile. There's RGB lighting on the back that you can customize, and there are Picture-in-Picture and Picture-and-Picture modes if you want to connect two or more sources. Ultrawide Game View: Simulates a 21:9 aspect ratio for ultrawide gaming; you'll see black bars on the top and bottom.

Additionally, it delivers accurate colors without calibration and displays a wide color gamut in SDR. On the other hand, the LG has an IPS panel with wider viewing angles, making it the better choice for co-op gaming. There is however a slight slope of the edges on the right and left hand side so it looks a little thicker when you view the screen from the front. The Samsung is available in a 27-inch and 32-inch size, while the Dell is only available in a 27-inch size. On the other hand, the Sony looks better in HDR thanks to its higher peak brightness, but both monitors have low contrast.

The screen behaves as it should in this regard, with a reduction in the luminance output of the screen controlled by the reduction in the OSD brightness setting. The Samsung has a higher refresh rate, but its response time isn't as good as the LG's because it has more overshoot causing inverse ghosting, as well as slow dark transitions that can result in dark smearing behind fast-moving objects. The HDR peak brightness is okay, but it doesn't get bright enough to make small highlights stand out against dark backgrounds. The sRGB preset mode offers a reasonable emulation of the sRGB colour space, and you can see from the CIE diagram that the black triangle representing the monitors gamut now more closely matches the sRGB reference triangle. It's part of Samsung's 2020 Odyssey gaming lineup, and it's one of few monitors available in two sizes: 27 and 32 inches, which we tested. The Samsung also gets brighter if you want to use it in a well-lit room, but the Gigabyte has more work-oriented features like a USB-C input. DisplayHDR 400 delivers more contrast, with deeper blacks and brighter whites to help you uncover enemies or secrets lurking in the shadows. Its wide color gamut helps the monitor display a wide range of colors at different luminance levels. This blotchy appearance from an angle seems to be more commonly seen on VA panels than other technologies.
