About this deal

This debut novel comes from the comedian and former Bake Off co-host Mel Giedroyc, one half of Mel and Sue. Giedroyc grew up in Leatherhead and attended Trinity College, Cambridge, becoming a member of the Footlights comedy club. They are also familiar as the hosts of Channel 4's Late Lunch and as the stars of a number of TV commercials.

Plot A story told over four generations of Welsh women – an unstoppable pensioner, her estranged daughter, her abandoned daughter, and then her daughter – written by the actor and Gavin and Stacey co-creator Ruth Jones. This is incredibly evident here, primarily in the acknowledgments, which are written in the style of a letter to his granny. Both Gary’s elderly neighbour and the mystery woman are more than happy to veer off on long, absurd tangents about oddly worded minutiae. Along with a reminder that the very best grown-ups are those who hold on tight to the chiddler inside.I loved seen seeing Sally’s character grow; from a spoiled lady to trying to take control of the situation. Cover quote “His grasp of human loneliness and longing is beautiful and comforting” – Marian Keyes (again). Photograph: Antonio Olmos/The Guardian View image in fullscreen Successful pivot from quizshow sidekick to bestselling author … Richard Osman. They meet, walk and talk with Raynor Winn, author of the blockbuster No 1 best-selling novel ‘The Salt Path’ and having worked up a thirst Mel and Martin sample Dorset’s finest cider on a farm overlooking magical Corfe Castle.

And that isn’t exactly a niche group: the man is so beloved that, for a while, The Satsuma Complex managed to out-sell the unsinkable Osman. Mel Giedroyc is a versatile presenter, actor and comedian, who formed a formidable comedy partnership with Sue Perkins, hosted the iconic Great British Bake Off and has starred in West End musicals. A nice piece of escapism, so needed at this time ****''Warm, interesting, clever and funny, as well as poignant at times. Nobody, because either you already own a copy or you’re destined to get three or four for Christmas in a few weeks. This amount includes seller specified domestic postage charges as well as applicable international postage, dispatch, and other fees. Now Sally has been thrown into the deep-end having to take control of her family and try and make some money to put food on the table as her husband falls apart. Main character Gary, a man with a job that Mortimer used to have, in the same location where Mortimer used to work. Mel has written two non-fiction books and has appeared in sitcoms and panel shows, on radio and on the West End stage. I really like Belfast and set myself the task of reading as much literature connected with the city as possible.

Part of Osman’s appeal is how familiar he is willing to be, whether to his readers, viewers or Twitter followers.

Main character The story is told from the perspective of all four characters, although the main one is Grace, a woman approaching her 90th birthday with the same energy that most approach their 30th. THE UPLIFTING SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER IS A WARM HUG OF A READ FROM THE BELOVED MEL GIEDROYC'I enjoyed it HUGELY. The nominations for this year’s BRIT Awards with Mastercard were this afternoon revealed in ‘Bring on The BRITs with Mastercard: The 2024 Nominations’, a 30 minute special streamed across the BRITs' official Instagram and Facebook. If Mortimer had written a terse thriller where everyone talks like a Hemingway character, it would have alienated his entire fanbase.
