About this deal

It’s often been publicised by artists in songs or autobiographies that the glitz and the glamour is not as exciting as we have been led to believe, and you just need to glance at the tragic list of celebrities who have turned to drugs and alcohol and the infamous 27 club that is often a result of such abuse and turmoil to see this. The way these shows are set up gives the impression that these people have turned up on the day hoping to try their luck at a new life of stardom and of course therefore some will be better than others. In the second bridge, the lyrics delve into the artificial and shallow nature of the entertainment industry. The celebrities are described as "bullshitters" wrapped up in fake glamour, chasing after fleeting fame. The bridge emphasizes the contrast between a humble beginning and the superficiality of fame, using the imagery of a small karaoke machine at a local pub versus the extravagant dreams associated with stardom.

To add salt to the wounds was the constant hounding from paparazzi and the press that thrust what can be a fatal spotlight streaming constant pressure and scrutiny on the shoulders of one person. He’s played and recorded with a crazy list of legends including Whitney Houston, Richard Ashcroft, Cher, Maxi Priest and Tina Turner. I sang an approximation of what I thought the guitar riff should sound like and Adam embellished it and played it beautifully. When we get bored and flick on the TV on a Saturday night we are often greeted by a poor soul stood on stage in front of thousands, willed on by family and friends; only for us to soon learn that actually they aren’t that talented after all and are swiftly met with laughs from the crowd and snide jokes and remarks from the judges.

Whilst Justin Bieber’s 'Lonely' did a great job recently of giving us the other side of the story, I think 'Starz in their eyes' is just as important.

Overall, the song "Starz in their Eyes" critiques the fascination with fame and the detrimental effects it can have on individuals. Although I’d never worked that way before, everything flowed so naturally that day, all the parts complementing each other perfectly. I know he just wanted it to sound as good as it could on the radio, and he must have cracked it because it became one of the top three radio airplay tunes of 2007. The chorus questions why someone would want to put "starz in their eyes," implying that seeking fame leads to negative consequences. The song title is taken from British TV talent show Stars in Their Eyes which ran between 1990 and 2006. With lines such as ‘It’s a long way to come from the Dog and Duck karaoke machine’ and ’It’s a long way to come from your private bedroom dance routines’ being sung in a cheeky cockney accent, the song relates back to us; I think this does much more to help us understand.

The song "Starz in their Eyes" by Just Jack criticizes the culture of celebrity and the desire for fame. The tabloids exploit personal hardships and document their fall from grace, suggesting that fame is fleeting. This means that producers of the show knowingly tell these people that they are good enough at least twice before they make it onto the stage, filling them with hope and self-belief which can then be torn down in front of the nation for our entertainment.

Tony then came up with the great drum groove, including the brilliantly simple but effective rising drum fill, and Adam recorded the three chords that are the meat of the song on top. At some point my mate Sam got his little nephew to record the “When I grow up I’m wanna be famous” line, and that was pretty much it. I went from being a low key, left of centre, bedroom producing, rapper/singer/stoner, to being on Top Of The Pops, and Conan O’Brien in NYC, and countless other places I would never have expected. What they don’t show on TV however is that these shows usually require video auditions and face-to-face off-camera auditions before people are even allowed onto the stage. I remember it taking Jay a long time to get the track to slow down and speed up to segue in and out this section.
