About this deal

The visit to the old Fedaykin Otheym offered a good opportunity to show a simple Arrakeen home, inspired by Middle-Eastern courtyards. When House Atreides is betrayed, the destruction will set Paul and his family on a journey towards a destiny beyond imagination, one that will bring to fruition humankind’s most ancient and unattainable dream…. In addition to brand-new new covers and interior illustrations by Matt Griffin, the Dune Messiah and Children of Dune deluxe editions each come with their own foiled and stamped case, highlighting a quote from the Litany Against Fear. The artist also described the level of creative freedom he experienced when working on artwork for these deluxe editions of the Dune books, as well as his collaboration with both the publisher and Herbert estate. It had been a while since I read the sequels, so when I finished re-reading [ Dune Messiah] and [ Children of Dune] for this job I continued, and am now enjoying God Emperor of Dune again.

Dune, by Frank Herbert, was first published in 1965 and is widely recognized as the best-selling science fiction novel of all time. His first science-fiction story, ‘Looking for Something’, was published in the pulp-science-fiction magazine Startling Stories (1952), and his first novel, The Dragon in the Sea (1956) was serialised soon afterwards. However, despite the grand scale of Herbert’s fully formed universe, at its heart Dune is the story of a single boy, Paul Atreides, who finds himself caught in the web of a myth, centuries in the making. Then Paul succeeds his father, and he becomes a catalyst for the native people of Dune, whose knowledge of the ecology of the planet gives them vast power.A deluxe hardcover version of Frank Herbert’s original Dune novel was released by Ace Books on October 1, 2019. The first great English detective novel, Wilkie Collins’ The Moonstone is presented in a Folio Society limited edition of 750 numbered copies. After the novel’s publication in 1965, it won both the Hugo and Nebula awards, going on to sell over 12 million copies, and spawning five sequels, as well as multiple board games, computer games, television series and feature films. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. This much anticipated edition is illustrated by Sam Weber, whose work also appears in the acclaimed Folio editions of Fahrenheit 451 and Lord of the Flies .

Dune is a landmark science fiction novel first published in 1965 and the first in a 6-book saga penned by author Frank Herbert. His acutely detailed illustrations perfectly capture the intricacies of Herbert’s vision, realising the faces and landscapes of Arrakis as never before. The first adventure in the Folio Society editions of ‘The Magic Faraway Tree’ series, Enid Blyton’s The Enchanted Wood features Jonathan Burton’s enchanting illustrations and a new introduction by Michael Morpurgo. Seamus Heaney’s deeply felt interpretation, widely acknowledged as the greatest Beowulf translation of modern times, is presented in parallel with the Old English verse in this fabulous Folio edition. So I guess maybe I did lean a little more into scene-inspiration for these but, hopefully, with a lot of atmosphere. This deluxe edition is very handsome with blue edging to all the pages and sits nicely on the book shelf, rather than looking like some cheap derivative sci-fi book that the front covers of the earlier editions tended to look like.

I want the viewer to feel like they’re there as much as possible, as I am when I’m reading the book and making the images. And then also had this image of what a Sietch might be like, in caves that have been hollowed out by wind. In addition to the deluxe edition artwork for Frank Herbert’s Dune, the artist has created the covers for The Caladan Trilogy— The Duke of Caladan, The Lady of Caladan, and The Heir of Caladan—and the recently-released collection Sands of Dune, written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. I had gotten that to a point where I felt it was finished, but Adam and Brian [Herbert] pushed me to work on it more.

I’ve worked with Adam for a good number of years now, and I think there’s a lot of mutual trust there, where I’m given the freedom to do my own thing (within reason! Although it is almost completely without water, Dune is a planet of fabulous wealth, for it is the only source of a drug prized throughout the Galactic Empire. When House Atreides is betrayed, the destruction of Paul’s family will set the boy on a journey toward a destiny greater than he could ever have imagined. It’s an open brief, I’m allowed to come up with my own suggestions for images which are then sent over to the art director Adam Auerbach for feedback and then approval from the Herbert estate.
