The House vineyards represent more than 170 hectares with a majority of Grands Crus and Premiers Crus, 60% of them are the property of Bollinger, quite a rare fact in Champagne. A proportion of the wine (approximately 15%) underwent its first fermentation in oak barrels, adding further complexity, and around 50% of the non-vintage blend is made up of reserve wines, a higher-than-average proportion, that contributes to the consistency and depth of flavours of this Champagne. Pinot Noir accounts for nearly 40% of the plantings in Champagne and lies at the heart of most blends - it gives Champagne its body, structure, strength and grip.In 1911, Georges Bollinger’s British agent gave him the idea for the name Special Cuvée - “special” written the English way, without an accent. They mention that it arrived well, the packaging was all spot on and that it's a great champagne with a good palate.
