About this deal

If we drill the cabinet at exactly that spot, the hole will land right between the two ribs and you’ll be able to squeeze in the jack there. Pretty much the whole circuit is built using SMD technology and there’s no schematic available yet, so it’s really not really mod-friendly. Here's some photos of the Blackstar official mains power brick, the amp rear power inlet and Rear Board, and the Main Board components involved in regulating power to the Fly's various amp stages. After the board is desoldered, wire the jack sleeve lug together with – pad of the board and the – terminal of the speaker, wire the + pad on the board to jack tip lug and wire + terminal of the speaker to jack shunt (switch) lug. The designers needed to be sure the voltage from either batteries or external could never go above 6v so the whole thing didn't fry (creating that lovely foul smelling smoke you get when an IC incinerates).

As soon as we plug the adapter, connection to battery ground is broken and instead it connects adapter’s ground to the circuit ground. If the fault occurs within the first 2 years of your ownership, we'll collect the goods and deliver them back to you free of charge.

Blackstar placed an "RF choke" on the wiring of their supply (it's a round black cylinder) which helps eliminate high frequency hum. You get a lot of circuit for your money in a Blackstar Fly3, and its obvious the engineers went to some trouble to optimise the sound from that tiny 3 inch speaker. You can imagine that when the speaker vibrates with sound waves, all the air inside the cabinet (in this case the box the Fly is in) vibrates too. This does the job fine but I want to stress again that I find it a shame that Blackstar used this proprietary plug.

Please note that this extended warranty is currently only available on products sold within the UK, EU or EEA, and is subject to the terms and conditions as detailed on the extended warranty certificate provided. Sure, the same can be achieved by using a separate booster pedal, but for me it wouldn’t really work. The distortion is crunchy and smooth, almost tube-like, with no digital artifacts or fizzy character usually associated with cheap solid state amps. R6It is a travel product of course, works with batteries, but this device is required if you use it for instance at home or even for computer speakers to stream music etc.

The minuscule size is one of the biggest strengths of Fly 3, but it’s also a drawback at the same time because such a small speaker cannot provide enough depth in such a small plastic box. Except it can't go anywhere near a voltage gain of x500 because we always have D2 and D3 adding negative feedback from the op-amp output back to pin2 input.

R10 being just a few kohms. While the Blackstar Fly 3 has been designed for long-life battery performance, this power supply will allow you to use the Fly 3 as much as you want without having to worry about replacing them. It’s still my after hours faffing / Zoom meeting / waiting for Godot amp, sitting at the back of my desk for at least the last four years. The power supply is a mostly conventional design with the power coming through FS1, a board mounted protection fuse (sorry don't know what rating it is, and I don't want to blow it to find out :) ), a " Power" switch (mounted on the Upper Deck Board), and into IC9 after a couple of filtering caps C79 and C40.
