About this deal

I got to the point where I could play the whole thing from memory and made a darn good job of it, even though I say so myself, and even being able to keep in time with recordings (Alfred Brendel! One thing you’ll immediately notice when you crack the cover is a list of books that can be used alongside this one. The main issue I have with it is that it doesn't even mention that the UK and the US use totally different musical terms and the British terms are not given in this book, whereas every British book I have at least mentions the difference so beginners are aware of it.

Some of the more advanced pieces found in the 3rd book include Beethoven's Fur Elise and Moonlight Sonata (the first section, i. Other popular series include the Piano Adventures for adults and the John Thompson piano course, both of which I plan to cover on this channel in the coming months. This first book is considered a preparatory level (what I affectionately refer to as “musical kindergarten”). Alfred's Basic Adult All-in-One Course is designed for use with an instructor for the beginning student looking for a truly complete piano course. I haven't played piano for 50 years, and in the intervening years had played a treble clef instrument so had forgotten the left hand notes. You can fine each of the Alfred’s Adult Piano Courses here: Make sure to start with Book 1 if you are a beginner though! The preparatory level in music is generally a 1 to 2-year process for adult students (longer for children).

If you're able to make it through all three levels of the method you will have an excellent foundation for playing the piano. The great thing is that there are two more books in this same line that just continue teaching you the same way and introducing harder music along with the new concepts. The good thing is that Moonlight Sonata is played on a loop in my GP surgery (very badly) on a sort of 'doctors hits album to drown out patient's screams' sort of an album, along with that tune that used to be on a well known cigar advert in the 1970s. Includes a "Just for Fun" section and an "Ambitious" section for the student who will devote a little extra effort toward learning some of the great masterworks that require additional practice.

In the first Alfred Adult method book there are 12 chapters (plus an introduction) and about 63 pieces (in addition to a variety of exercises and lessons). that and my lessons have made me realize how much in terms of technique the Alfred book seems to be missing. The second Alfred Adult book has 15 chapters (some quite small), including an extensive review section as the first chapter, and contains 42 pieces. Today we’re going to take a look at what Level 1 offers and there is a link at the bottom of this blog where you can purchase this book along with the other two in the series. By the time you get to the middle and the end you’re going to sound like a real pianist…so take the time to really learn the beginning parts of the book before you try moving on to the more difficult pages.
