About this deal

I hesitate to suggest the novel should be longer, but the structure of the A story is at least three or four important scenes shy of wholeness.

NBC network's Kraft Television Theatre broadcast a television version of All the King's Men in May 1958. And once you’ve used and abused everyone, including your family, who is there left that you can trust? We begin to see Jack as a thinking man, philosophical, cynical and rather defeated – why has he ended up as Stark’s minion? This sounds like an amazing book and worthy of the GAN win – I was thinking as I saw the title we haven’t seen any of these for a while, so I’m glad it was a good one. and perhaps Light in August — and behind Melville's magnificent epic of the sea, Moby-Dick, but it belongs among the ranks of other novels that have received more attention, novels such as The Scarlet Letter, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, The Great Gatsby, A Farewell to Arms, and Invisible Man.Hmm, the title of The Candidate sounds familiar but I can’t remember if I’ve seen it – I’ll look it up! I have read a good chunk of Warren’s poetry – he is one of our greats, although not famous like Robert Frost – and am now wondering which of his novels I should read next.

Willie's death serves as the devastating climax of his political career, marked by a journey from idealism to corruption and eventual ruin. The humble ‘Willie Stark’ is at first teetotal, with Jack Burden and Willie’s first meeting in 1922 being defined by Stark’s rejection of alcohol. The central character of Willie Stark (often simply referred to as "the Boss") undergoes a radical transformation from an idealistic lawyer and weak gubernatorial candidate into a charismatic and extraordinarily powerful governor. As SOE congratulated themselves on a new asset, Dericourt gave the Nazis everything; every flight, operation and coded message he could. I cannot recommend All the King’s Men enough; as a book about populism and demagogues, it is unchallenged. Joyce Carol Oates, "The New York Review of Books" PRAISE FOR "ALL THE KING'S MEN" "Over the course of more than two centuries of vivid political history, there is perhaps only one full-blooded American novel of politics that plunges deep into the hearts of its characters and therefore into the hearts of its readers, thus rising to the top ranks of American fiction. Quick question: is there a section in the book, anywhere, that describes a sort of global group of shadowing characters who pull the economic strings behind the scenes, creating wars or trade alliances, for their own benefit?
